Bermuda’s Island of St George
St George’s town, located on Bermuda’s island was the first permanent settlement from these Islands and now is the oldest continuously inhabited English settlement in the New World. It is an enchanting place with an important history even though is a small town. Originally called New England, was built in 1612 and it now counts between the first five oldest Northern European municipalities in the Western Hemisphere.
This beautiful city and its medieval historical appearance is still maintained today, and some streets seam to not have changed their look ever since. Water system, electricity and other sorts of wires are buried in the ground in order to lessen their impact on the town scene.
Absolutely amazing about this town is the fact that here you can meet the perfect combination between an authentic livings and working town but also a piece of art, the whole city looking like a museum itself.
The beautiful paved streets are beautiful taken care of but not kept away from visitors and habitants walks.
Outstanding buildings like Banana Manor historical house, Bank of Bermuda Building rich in history and modern look, Bermuda Fire Service, and Bermuda forts (Alexandria Battery, Fort Albert, Gate’s Fort, etc.) give each visitor a taste from the flavor of this beautiful small town and still they are just a small part of all the things that can be visited here.
An important historical link is also that even William Shakespeare, England’s greatest writer and playwright, made Bermuda the reason of one of his writings, the so called “The Tempest”
There are many things to see and do in Bermuda’s Town of St George, some of the places to visit have already been presented and others can be explored when getting there. A quite large diversity of museums, restaurants, houses, pubs and shops can be enjoyed.
