Navy Pier Chicago
Right on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, Chicago, there is a 1010 m long pier, called Navy Pier. It is also known as a romantic spot for young lovers but anyone would feel welcomed in this place. It was first built in 1916 as plan of Chicago by Daniel Burnham and as utility was suppose to redound as cargo facility for lake freighters, warehouses and docking space for passenger excursion steamers.
There were three important domains it was used for. Firstly it was used as a pier for serious marine purposes, the second purpose was of a college class for Illinois University and the most successful purpose was to be used as public gathering place, since after being considered an underutilized eyesore, no government agency would invest any money in it.
On January 13, 2006 the whole complex received funds to be renovated, so what visitors can see today is the result of a major investment of two billion dollars investment.
There are now many attractions to catch your eye, and many entertaining activities to develop. The first recognizable landmark of the place is also one of the greatest attractions on the pier, the Giant Ferris Wheel that gives to any tourist a complete view upon Chicago and an amazing feeling of safely suspended in air.
A large variety of restaurants are available on cruises and ashore with seafood specialties, Mexican food, Chinese food, a roller coaster, floating hotel, an 80,000-square-foot (7,000 m2) water park with a Great Lakes theme.
Also sightseeing cruises, dinner cruises, water taxis, architecture cruises, private charter are available daily. Almost every week, or even twice a week you can enjoy spectacular fireworks shows, musical carousel is available for children in Pier Park, Wave Singer, Miniature Golf, Remote Control Boats and many others.
